A highlight of official matchday programme 'This Is Anfield' is the revealing notes of Brendan Rodgers and this season we'll be publishing exclusive extracts from the manager's pre-match thoughts ahead of each Liverpool fixture.

Bournemouth visit Anfield for the first home game of the campaign tonight and the boss has stressed the importance of the Reds’ encouraging start at Stoke City.

He writes: “Last Sunday’s result was important for a number of reasons. A big positive was the three points itself: with the league being the most competitive it’s ever been, every point is precious this campaign.

“Also, it was great to see the character and desire present in the squad; a determination to perform and fight for our supporters.

“The clean sheet and a sublime winning goal also gave great satisfaction, as did the performances of our new players, who have shown great application during the summer to adapt to our way of working.

“However, the biggest positive was the attitude in the dressing room at full-time: there was no elation or euphoria. There was an immediate focus on our next fixture, today’s game and the importance of backing up one good result with another.”
