Disappointment has to be harnessed for motivation, reflected Simon Mignolet after Liverpool were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Norwich City on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds broke the deadlock at Anfield four minutes into the second half as substitute Danny Ings clipped home a classy finish from Alberto Moreno’s through ball.

But when Mignolet punched out a Norwich corner in the 62nd minute, Russell Martin pounced to instinctively lift a shot over the Belgian’s head and equalise.

Brendan Rodgers’ team created numerous chances but found John Ruddy a stubborn obstacle at the other end, with Philippe Coutinho denied in the most promising situation.

Mignolet told Liverpoolfc.com: “Obviously we’re disappointed. When you play at home, you always want to get the three points.

“I think we created enough chances to score the goals. Unfortunately, we ended up with a draw and that’s always disappointing.

“[It was] a set-piece and you don’t want to concede in that way. It’s disappointing. We have to look forward and learn the lessons from this game and take them into the next.”

The No.22 was called into action within minutes of the Canaries’ leveller to ensure Liverpool did not fall behind on home soil.

Matt Jarvis was poised to fire in from close range for the visitors but watched as Mignolet blocked his point-blank effort to preserve the score.

It was the first of four consecutive Anfield fixtures for the Reds, with Carlisle United next up in the Capital One Cup before clashes with Aston Villa and FC Sion.

“You’re always disappointed when you don’t get the result you want at home,” the goalkeeper continued.

“You want to win as a team. [On Monday], I’ll pick up my own game and see what was good and what could be done better.

“We’ve got another game on Wednesday so we’ve got a very early game to get back going and put things right.

“Hopefully we can proceed in the League Cup and then after that kick on with the Premier League game against Villa.”
