Danny Ings has been lauded for his 'refreshing and infectious' attitude after notching his first competitive goal for Liverpool during Sunday's 1-1 draw with Norwich.

The Englishman made an instant impact on proceedings following his introduction as a half-time substitute, controlling a lofted Alberto Moreno pass on his chest before finishing coolly just three minutes into the second period.

Although Russell Martin's equaliser ensured the afternoon ultimately ended in frustration for the hosts, John Aldridge believes Ings' contribution provided plenty of reason to be hopeful for the future.

And, writing in his latest column for the Liverpool Echo, the former Reds striker described the club's new No.28 as a throwback to a glorious era of centre-forward play at Anfield - when he and Ian Rush were regularly paired up top.

"The result might have been frustrating once again, but this time there were definitely positives to be taken from Anfield on Sunday night," he wrote.

"And for me the biggest plus was the performance of Danny Ings.

"Liverpool’s goalscorer played like a 1980s throwback, running, chasing, harrying and closing down Norwich defenders throughout.

"He reminded me of Rushie and myself in the 1980s, refusing to give defenders a minute’s peace.

"He showed a wonderful attitude which was both refreshing and infectious. He came on at half-time and brought the crowd to life and lifted the players around him, too.

"And he’s got quality too. His movement was excellent, he took his goal very well and did everything that could have been asked of him."

Sunday's game also saw Daniel Sturridge make his long-awaited return to action following his recovery from hip surgery, with the 25-year-old getting an hour under his belt against the Canaries.

And the England striker's availability, allied to the summer arrivals of Ings and Christian Benteke, means Brendan Rodgers possesses enviable striking options this season, according to Aldo.

"When you look at the squad now there is reason for optimism in the coming weeks," he continued.

"We can choose from Christian Benteke, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings up front, two of whom weren’t with us last season and one who was injured for most of the campaign.

"With that trio of strikers available to us this time the season will get better as it goes on."
