The last man to score a winning goal for Liverpool at Manchester City in the league is no longer at the club – but Dirk Kuyt will be dearly hoping to see his former team repeat the trick today.

It was back in October 2008 when the Dutchman slammed a loose ball into the roof of the net to complete a stunning comeback from two goals down to a 3-2 victory for the Reds over this evening’s opponents.

More than three years have now passed since Kuyt said goodbye to Anfield after scoring 71 goals in 285 games, but his affection is unchanged and he remains a staunch supporter.

Which is why the 35-year-old is as keen as anyone connected with Liverpool to see Jürgen Klopp bring success to the club.

Kuyt said: “Klopp did a great job at Dortmund.

“Everyone can see that he has become an experienced manager and he has got the chance to manage a club like Liverpool – he will give everything he has.

“Those kinds of people, they like in Liverpool. I think it’s a good match.

“I hope Klopp gets time to do the work he did at Dortmund and I hope he will be successful, because I’m not a Liverpool player anymore but I am definitely a supporter.”
