Nathaniel Clyne admits the loss to Manchester United was a bitter pill to swallow and knows Liverpool must get back to winning ways at Norwich City this afternoon.

The Reds were beaten 1-0 by Louis van Gaal’s men at Anfield last Sunday despite having more chances and greater control of the game.

After sitting out the FA Cup win over Exeter City, the defender wants to use the disappointment against United to put in a strong showing at Carrow Road.

However, he is fully aware of the challenges the Canaries will present, given their need for points hovering just above the relegation zone.

Clyne told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s a big game coming off a defeat against Manchester United. I think we played well in that game and definitely didn't deserve to lose.

“But we've got to bounce back against Norwich now and try to get the three points.

“It's hard to take, especially [with] how well we played. We thought that we were the better team and deserved to win more than they did. For them to get a goal against the run of play and from a set-piece again is disappointing.

“We've got to lift our heads up again and work even harder on the training field to not lose games like that and try to win them instead.

“It's going to be another difficult game, Norwich are fighting at the bottom and will be really up for it. We're going to have to be up for it as well, it's going to be another fight.

“We're going to show our qualities. If we perform how we know we can then we can definitely go over there and get the three points.”

Liverpool currently lie ninth in the Barclays Premier League, eight points off the top four, but the 24-year-old reveals the dressing room is hopeful the team can still achieve Champions League qualification this season.

He added: “I still think it's tight and up for grabs. [There are] a lot of teams in and around that area [and] if they go on a good run of form from now until the end of the season, they could pinch that spot.

“We're fully confident if we could go on a run of games with lots of wins then we can get in there.

“I think we haven't hit a run of form yet and we're still looking to hit a run of form. Once we hit that, I'm sure we can get into that top four spot and nail it down and stay there.”
