Mignolet on the defence, Southampton and Origi
It's been a quiet period between the sticks for Liverpool for Simon Mignolet, not that the goalkeeper himself is complaining.
The Reds' defensive solidity of recent months has been highlighted by the fact they have conceded just three goals in their past eight outings.
Jürgen Klopp's men have been lighting it up at one end of the field, while staying strong and organised at the other.
In Thursday's Europa League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford, they responded brilliantly to going 1-0 down by equalising after a dominant spell of pressure.
The visitors then professionally closed out the tie by keeping United at bay, as well as creating numerous chances to add to their 3-1 aggregate lead.
And Mignolet now hopes the back four can put in another assured showing on Sunday when they travel to St Mary's to face Southampton in the Barclays Premier League.
The 28-year-old told Liverpoolfc.com: "The only thing we can do is try to keep it going. Obviously, we’re happy with the last few games, we haven’t conceded many and we’ve been very solid.
"I think the defence played really well again and we only gave maybe two or three chances away at Old Trafford and that’s the way forward.
“We’re very pleased with that but at the same time it’s over now and it’s [onto] the next game.
"On Sunday at Southampton it won’t be easy because they’re a good side, so it’s a very important fixture for us and we want to do well there again.
"It’s the last game before the international break so we want to go back to our countries with a positive feeling. We look forward to it and hopefully we can get a positive result."
The last time Liverpool played on the south coast, they thrashed Saints 6-1 at the quarter-final stage of the Capital One Cup, with Mignolet's compatriot Divock Origi netting a hat-trick.
The No.22 believes his fellow Belgian has all the attributes to lead Liverpool’s forward line in the future and reveals the 20-year-old is putting the hours in at Melwood in order to continue his development.
"He’s only young but he’s working really hard to improve and he’s a very good player," the 'keeper added.
"He has all the abilities you need to have as a striker in the Premier League; he’s quick, he’s got the technique, he can hold the ball up in a duel, and he can score goals. What more would you want from him?
"He’s only young and he still needs to learn but in football there’s no such thing as a young age.
"He wants to do well and I’m sure he’s got the positive character to try and improve and become better. He’ll do well for us, I’m sure of that."
