Liverpool go top after thrashing Spurs...

In 2014, Liverpool took top spot of the Barclays Premier League after a wonderful 4-0 demolishing of Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. 

Brendan Rodgers' side got off to a flyer when Younes Kaboul scored an own-goal two minutes in before Luis Suarez netted his 29th goal of the season midway into the first half.

The Reds continued with the onslaught following the break as Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson added their names to the scoresheet to complete the rout. 

Everton win brings up Anfield landmark...

Liverpool brought up their 3,000th league point at Anfield with a 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Everton in 2008.

Fernando Torres' 28th goal of the season after seven minutes gave the Reds a narrow win to secure their grip on fourth place in the league. 

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina was untroubled in his 100th league game for the club and produced his 54th clean sheet - beating Ray Clemence's 53 in 100 league outings.

Semi-final delight in Barca...

Liverpool beat a Barcelona side featuring Johan Cruyff 1-0 at the Nou Camp on this day in 1976. 

John Toshack gave the visitors an important first-leg advantage in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup after 13 minutes. 

Bob Paisley's men held onto the slender lead and drew applause from the 70,000 spectators for their heroics. 

In his post-match comments, Toshack said: "It was a magical night. When I retire, I think I'll remember that goal as the best I've ever scored."

The Reds would go onto draw 1-1 at Anfield in the return leg before lifting the trophy by beating Club Brugge in the final.

Charlton win puts Reds on top...

This day in 2002 also saw Liverpool return to the top of the table with a 2-0 win against Charlton at Anfield.

Gerard Houllier's side carried out a professional job against the Barclays Premier League's bottom-placed side.

Liverpool secured the three points in the first half as Vladimir Smicer struck after 22 minutes shortly before Michael Owen added a second.
