Morrissey came through the junior ranks at Anfield before signing professional forms in May 1957.

When Liverpool's board decided to sell him over Bill Shankly's head, the great man threatened to quit and actually wrote a resignation letter.

Morrissey, who was uncompromising on the field, was successful with Everton, winning the league, the FA Cup and playing more than 250 games.
