At number four in our list is a Geordie who both sets of supporters took to their hearts, Peter Beardsley.

Beardsley was one of the most captivating footballers of his generation, wowing Reds and Blues with his guile and sublime close-control.

At the creative heart of arguably the finest Liverpool XI ever to play the game, Beardsley was the intelligent and agile creator, interweaving with the equally sublime John Aldridge and John Barnes.

After winning two championships and an FA Cup with the Reds, much to the anger and disappointment of Kopites, he was controversially sold by Graeme Souness across Stanley Park to Everton in 1991 and promptly scored the winner at Goodison Park in a 2-1 win against his former club in 1992.
