Post-match

The manager speaks

"I’m only disappointed or frustrated because I know we could have played better," he told reporters.

"It’s not too important now but everybody saw if we’d have played a little bit better, a little bit closer to our 100 per cent, then it would have been a completely different game.

"The first two goals were too easy, too simple for Swansea."

Match report

Full Time

Swansea City 3-1 Liverpool

A much-changed Reds team is downed at the Liberty Stadium, with an Andre Ayew brace and Jack Cork's fine strike doing the damage.

Substitute Christian Benteke's goal provided hope in the second half but that was quickly extinguished when Ayew grabbed his second three minutes later.

A day to forget for Jürgen Klopp's team but now focus turns to Thursday and a huge game against Villarreal at Anfield.

90

Substitution

A late sub for Swansea, with Leon Britton leaving the field to be replaced by Jay Fulton.

86

Swansea knocking it about comfortably now as the Reds aim to hold their shape with just 10 men on the field.

Sigurdsson still manages to get a shot away after finding space but, thankfully, it heads wide of the post.

80

Substitution

A change for the Reds now with Cameron Brannagan introduced in place of Jordon Ibe.

75

Red Card

Swansea clear a corner and as Brad Smith challenges to stop the hosts breaking he catches Kyle Naughton with a high foot.

The referee has little choice but to issue a second yellow and Liverpool are now down to ten men.

73

Yellow Card

Angel Rangel in the book for tripping the breaking Sheyi Ojo - he's probably happy to take the card there.

71

Substitution

Swansea making a switch now with Jefferson Montero making way for Kyle Naughton.

68

Goal

Swansea City 3-1 Liverpool (Ayew)

The Reds' hope lasts all of three minutes. The visitors can't get the ball clear after Montero gets into the box and eventually it drops to Ayew, who sidefoots into the corner.

65

Goal

Swansea City 2-1 Liverpool (Benteke)

They've got a lifeline. Ojo sends in a fine dipping corner delivery from the Liverpool right and Benteke is there to meet it and head in from close range.

64

Match shot

Fabianski down receiving treatment after getting an accidental boot to face from his own defender. In the meantime, here's Sturridge taking a shot.

57

Decent build-up from the visitors works Ojo into space, and Benteke is claiming for a penalty as he attempts to reach the young winger's cross.

The referee isn't interested, however, and the No.9 gives away a free-kick from the corner that follows.

53

Liverpool dominating possession after the break but yet to carve out a clear chance off the back of it.

An early goal here would really get them back in it.

46

Kick-Off

Swansea get the game back under way - have Liverpool's substitutions changed things?

Half-time

Substitution

Two changes for Liverpool at the break as Lucas Leiva and Christian Benteke enter the fray in place of Pedro Chirivella and Philippe Coutinho.

Half-time

Match shot

The Liverpool manager watches on during a disappointing first half.

Half Time

A young Liverpool side's inexperience has been ruthlessly exposed in the first half at the Liberty Stadium, with Andre Ayew and Jack Cork putting Swansea two goals ahead.

Fingers crossed for a turnaround after the break.

40

Yellow Card

Clyne in the book now for bringing his man down on the turn just outside the box. Worrying times for the Reds, who probably need half-time now.

38

Sturridge so close to halving the deficit after he latches onto a brilliant Ojo through-ball.

Unfortunately, the striker's chipped effort flies agonisingly wide of the far post.

34

Goal

Swansea City 2-0 Liverpool (Cork)

It's two. Cork drives into space at the edge of the Liverpool box and doubles Swansea's lead with a curler into the far corner.

31

Ward at it again with another good stop from Montero's well-hit drive. Jürgen Klopp will not be happy with how things have gone so far, barring the performance of his goalkeeper.

27

Yellow Card

Liverpool have Danny Ward to thank that they're not two behind.

The young goalkeeper makes a fine reflex save from Jack Cork's shot before a follow-up from Wayne Routledge is athletically palmed away.

In the immediate aftermath of that chance, Brad Smith sees the first yellow of the match for a cynical trip.

22

Goal

Swansea City 1-0 Liverpool (Ayew)

The Reds can have no complaints, it's been coming. Ayew rises highest to meet a dangerous corner delivery and nods in from close range to give the hosts the lead.

15

Swansea piling the pressure on in the last few minutes, with Sigurdsson and now Ayew both going close.

Sigurdsson's effort was, thankfully, straight at Ward, while Ayew will be disappointed not to have done better than to shoot over in the box.

11

The first chance for the Reds this half as Ibe gets a left-footed cross away and Sturridge volleys wide.

The striker was struggling to get his foot fully around that and so Fabianski never really looked worried in the Swansea goal.

9

Match shot

A great snap of the pre-match tribute to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster and their families. A real touch of class from today's hosts.

5

A couple of early attacks from the Swans but the final pass is just short on both occasions and Liverpool can clear the ball.

Francesco Guidolin's side have been impressive at home of late, and they're showing similar form in the earlier stages here.

Pre-match

Nearly there

The warm-ups are coming to an end at the Liberty Stadium and we're just 10 minutes away from kick-off.

A healthy dose of rain smattering the players, so the ball should move nicely across the turf at least.

Skrts the skipper

Six subs?

No, we haven’t made a typo – there are only six substitutes named for Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium today.

The reason? Connor Randall woke up feeling under the weather this morning with a virus and has returned back to Merseyside.

Pre-match

Meanwhile, in his official programme notes, Swansea captain Ashley Williams has written: “It has been an emotional week, I am sure, for anyone connected with the city of Liverpool following the conclusion of the Hillsborough inquests.

“I was delighted to see the verdict last week. Justice for the 96 has finally been done, and I am pleased that the families of the victims have been vindicated for their 27-year battle for the truth.”

Pre-match

View from the other side

Swansea boss Francesco Guidolin isn't expecting the Reds to have one eye on their Europa League semi-final, second-leg clash with Villarreal when they run out at the Liberty Stadium today.

At his pre-match press conference, the Italian said: "Liverpool can play the same in the Premier League and the Europa League as they are a big club with many important players.

"I remember the same situation when they played in the Europa League and then they played against Bournemouth in the Premier League a few days later.

"They played with many young players and won. They are not far from the top-four position, and Liverpool is a great club which can be focused on Swansea and Villarreal."

Weather

It's what you're here for

We know you've been waiting for the weather update, so without further ado...

It's a chilly 9 degrees celsius in Swansea today with a 70 per cent chance of precipitation - hardly your typical end-of-season forecast.

Wrap up if you're off to the game!

Pre-match

Goalkeeper chat

Jürgen Klopp has stated that Danny Ward is "likely" to start for Liverpool today at the Liberty Stadium, but the goalkeeper he will replace, Simon Mignolet, isn't too downhearted about that.

In fact, the Belgian welcomes the competition, and told us earlier this week: "He'll be there to push [me] on and that's what you want throughout the team.

"Everybody in the dressing room is ready to play and to push each other on."
