Liverpool reached the final of the League Cup in 2005 at Watford's expense thanks to a certain Steven Gerrard.

Rafael Benitez guided the Reds to a final in his first season as the Reds set up a date with Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

However, Watford proved to be a very tough opponent in the two-legged semi-final.

A Gerrard strike in 56th minute secured a 1-0 win at Anfield, and in the second leg the iconic No.8 was at it again when he netted the only goal to send Liverpool through to Cardiff.

Sadly there was to be no joy that afternoon for the Reds as they lost 3-2 to Chelsea, but Gerrard and co would gain their revenge on Mourinho later that season in the Champions League semi-final...
