En route to winning the FA Cup for the first time in 1965, Liverpool swept aside Chelsea in the semi-final at Villa Park.

Bill Shankly was determined to bring the FA Cup back to Merseyside and his fantastic team were not about to disappoint.

Chelsea, containing a certain Terry Venables and Ron 'Chopper' Harris in their ranks, were a tough nut to crack but the Reds were desperate to reach Wembley.

Peter Thompson set Shankly's men on their way with a 63rd-minute opener and when Willie Stevenson kept his cool to convert a penalty 12 minutes from time, there was to be no way back for Chelsea.
