No.5: UEFA Cup glory for the first time
We now recall Liverpool's first-ever European triumph, when Tommy Smith captained the Reds to UEFA Cup glory against Borussia Moenchengladbach in 1973.
It was a gripping two-legged affair full of drama and incident.
In the first leg, Bill Shankly's Reds swept into a 3-0 lead courtesy of a double strike from Kevin Keegan and an effort from Larry Lloyd.
Keegan was also denied a hat-trick when he missed a penalty, while Ray Clemence made what turned out to be a vital save as he kept out a penalty from Jupp Heynckes.
In the second leg over in Germany, two first-half strikes from Heynckes saw the Reds wobble, but the defence held firm to ensure European glory for Liverpool.
