Liverpool’s maiden European opponents were Icelandic side KR Reykjavik and St John netted a brace on a unique night at Anfield.

This was Liverpool’s first ever European home game, coming on September 14, 1965.

The Reds won 6-1 with Gerry Byrne, Roger Hunt, Bobby Graham and Willie Stevenson also on the mark in an 11-1 aggregate victory.
