On this day in 1987, Kenny Dalglish swooped to sign John Barnes,a player who would go to become one of the greatest in the club’s history.
Known to his teammates as ‘Digger,’ Barnes would add a new dimension to Liverpool’s attacking threat.
Gracing the left wing, the No.10 was part of a sensational front three in the brilliant 1987-88 side alongside Peter Beardsley and John Aldridge, which is to this day recognised as one of the greatest teams ever in Liverpool’s history.
