No.10: Paul Joyce (Daily Express)
Finally, we get the views of Paul Joyce from the Daily Express.
Who’ll win the league?
It’s difficult to predict because I don’t think there is any outstanding team. A lot of the contenders have all got something to prove under a new manager or an existing manager, with all of them under pressure. I do think having no European football will help Chelsea, but it would be easier to cast an opinion on August 31 when the transfer window closes.
Where will Liverpool finish?
Fourth.
What do you think of the new additions to the Liverpool squad?
I like the look of Sadio Mane. I’m excited to see what he is like and there is a lot of attacking options this season. I’m not entirely convinced they have strengthened enough. I still feel another left-back would have been good to get in. In saying that, not having European football this season and being able to train all week will be a big plus for Liverpool.
What are the expectations as Jürgen Klopp prepares for his first full season in charge of the club?
I think the expectations should be top four. Playing one game a week should help them and it would be a disappointment if they are not up there challenging. I think it would be better for the club to win a trophy this season. It’s important to win silverware for Liverpool and that’s what it has got to be about at this club, and they have got to set themselves the challenge of finishing in the top four.
Surprise package team?
Arsenal.
Relegated?
Hull, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.
LFC player to watch?
This is a big season for Emre Can because I think there is a lot expected of him, but I’ll go for Divock Origi. He has got the pace, power and the finishing to match. He can really catch the eye more consistently if he gets his chance. I would also like Danny Ings to do well.
One hope as a reporter this season?
A strong season for the Merseyside clubs.
