Liverpool reached the fourth round of the FA Cup after a thrilling 4-3 win over Chelsea on January 6, 1962.

Bill Shankly's exciting team - featuring Ian St John, Roger Hunt and Ian Callaghan - edged out Tommy Docherty's side in a classic.

St John fired the Reds into a 16th-minute lead only for Bobby Tambling to level two minutes later.

Further efforts from Hunt, St John again and Alan A'Court saw Shankly's side head into the break with a healthy 4-1 lead.

Chelsea then made it a nervous second 45 minutes when Tambling and Barry Bridges struck, but Ron Yeats and co managed to hold on.
