He still has cult status in the eyes of Liverpool supporters to this very day - and back in September 1999, Erik Meijer broke his duck for the Reds as he bagged his only two goals for the club in a League Cup win away to Hull in September 1999.

The popular Dutchman slotted home two efforts as the Reds defeated the Tigers 5-1.

Danny Murphy netted a brace too, and Steve Staunton was also on the mark.

Although Meijer was never to find the target again for the club, his passion and work ethic endeared him deeply to the Kop.

He would later be seen singing and celebrating with Liverpool supporters in Dortmund ahead of the 2001 UEFA Cup final, in which the Reds beat Alaves to win the treble.
