Liverpool visit Southampton in the Premier League this afternoon. With the help of club statistician Ged Rea, we've compiled eight of the best pre-match facts ahead of the game at St Mary's.

Emre Can could play his 100th game for the Reds in all competitions. After scoring twice in his first 62 Premier League games, the Germany international has found the net in his last two top-flight outings.

The Reds have lost just one of the last six meetings between the sides in all competitions.

In three games last season, Liverpool won one, drew one and lost one. The 6-1 League Cup victory at St Mary's last December represents their biggest ever win at Southampton.

Sadio Mane scored four of Southampton's five goals in those three games. The Senagalese forward has netted six times in 10 Premier League appearances for the Reds since his summer switch to Anfield.

There has never been a goalless draw in the 41 league meetings at Southampton. The only two 0-0 stalemates in 82 league meetings have both come at Anfield, with the last coming in May 2000.

In the Premier League era, the clubs have met 34 times - Liverpool winning 16 and Southampton 10. In those 34 meetings 99 goals have been scored, an average of 2.91 per game.

Liverpool’s biggest ever Premier League victory came against the Saints - Robbie Fowler netting a hat-trick in a 7-1 win at Anfield in January 1999.
