5. John Barnes v Southampton (Dec 1996)
John Barnes' 77th-minute winner at The Dell proved to be the penultimate goal of his Liverpool career (his final effort would come four months later against Manchester United at Anfield) and what a strike it was.
Saints goalkeeper Dave Beasant made a hash of an attempted clearance and, left stranded outside his area, looked on aghast as the ball fell straight to the magical left foot of LFC's No.10 in the centre of the pitch.
With his first touch, Barnes sent a 40-yard shot through a cluster of players that curled into the bottom corner as the recovering Beasant made a despairing dive at the ball.
It was the only goal of the game as Roy Evans' Reds beat Graeme Souness' Southampton 1-0.
