Manchester United v Liverpool: Team news
Jürgen Klopp reported a triple injury boost for Liverpool ahead of the 200th competitive meeting with Manchester United on Saturday.
Jordan Henderson has trained without issue after sustaining a dead leg in the latter stages of the Champions League stalemate with FC Porto in midweek.
Should the captain feature in the clash between the teams sitting second and third in the Premier League, it would be his 200th league appearance for the club.
Andy Robertson and Georginio Wijnaldum have also been part of the Reds’ preparations for the trip to Old Trafford, having missed Tuesday’s tie at Anfield.
Right-back Nathaniel Clyne is ‘close to match fitness’ but will not be considered for the game.
The England international is building up sharpness following a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a back injury since pre-season.
“Clyney didn’t lose a percentage of his quality but he has no rhythm, one match in the last nine months or so,” explained Klopp. “That cannot be the same like it is with the other two boys, Joe [Gomez] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold].”
For United, midfielder Marouane Fellaini is in line to return to Jose Mourinho’s squad while centre-back Eric Bailly is fully fit, too. Both had suffered knee injuries earlier this season.
Anthony Martial is not likely to be involved, though. He missed Monday’s 3-2 comeback win at Crystal Palace, which moved the Red Devils two points above Liverpool.
“It’s basically the same [squad],” Mourinho told MUTV. “The people injured are recovering step by step and a few of them are very, very close to a return – but not yet. We are fine, we have a squad ready for everything.”
