Milner targeting PL run after Old Trafford disappointment
James Milner has urged his Liverpool teammates to move on quickly from their Old Trafford disappointment by commencing a winning finish to their Premier League campaign.
The Reds went down to a narrow defeat to rivals Manchester United on Saturday that leaves them five points behind their rivals in the English top flight, though they remain safely ensconced in the top four.
And, speaking after the match, Milner was already looking ahead to his side's eight remaining league fixtures as a means of recovering from a difficult day.
He told Sportklub Croatia: "It’s down to us to compete in the remaining games and try to win all of the rest. We have got some tough games in there and we know how tough the Premier League is.
"We need to make sure we bounce back from this and get a result next week, going into the international break. There are eight games left and we have to try to win all of those."
The No.7, who captained the Reds on the day with Jordan Henderson on the bench, believes impatience in possession proved costly for Jürgen Klopp's team.
He added: "We’re disappointed obviously. We wanted to come here and get a result – and we didn’t do that.
"We started poorly in the first half and we didn’t move the ball well enough. They gave us enough time on the ball but we tried to force it too many times instead of being patient.
"Obviously they were a couple of poor goals to give away and when you go two goals down at a place like this it’s always going to be tough to come back.
"I think we forced it a bit too much. They gave us plenty of time on the ball but we tried to play the killer pass a bit early instead of waiting, moving it round more in their half and waiting for the right time to go forward."
