One to watch: Raheem Sterling
This week on .tv, we're asking six experts and a group of fans to pick a player to watch for 2011-12. We continue the series today with The Times journalist Tony Barrett tipping an exciting winger for big things.
Last summer, Tony tipped John Flanagan for big things in 2010-11, so will his prediction be as successful this time around? Only time will tell...
Player profile: The England U17 international winger picked up the Academy Player of the Season award for 2010-11 after fans on the official website voted him their star man of the campaign.
Sterling has entertained many during the season and had a night to remember at Anfield when he scored an incredible five goals in the 9-0 demolition of Southend in the FA Youth Cup back in January.
He was also included in Kenny Dalglish's first-team squad for the Europa League trip to Sparta Prague in February, having made his senior debut as a substitute in the pre-season friendly against Borussia Moenchengladbach last summer.
Tony says: The success of the Academy over the last 12 months or so has seen Liverpool finally produce some players who are of the calibre to play for the first team.
You look at what John Flanagan and Jack Robinson have done, as well as Conor Coady and Andre Wisdom who have been on the bench.
But I think the most exciting talent of all at the Academy is Raheem Sterling.
He can play on either flank, has lovely balance and brilliant ability. Technically he is outstanding, he has pace to burn and can score goals with either foot.
Raheem has terrorised defenders all season and is one of those players that really excites everybody at the club. Looking at him and his potential, you know he could be a real player.
As Kenny Dalglish is keen to stress, the important thing is that nobody gets overly excited - but my one to watch has to be Raheem just on sheer talent alone.
