Lucas Leiva admits the prospect of lifting the Copa America on Argentinean soil would be an 'amazing' achievement for Brazil.

Mano Menezes's side go in search of an unprecedented third successive competition triumph when the tournament gets underway on Friday night in La Plata.

And given the rivalry that exists between the South American giants, Lucas knows clinching the Copa America in Argentina would go down in Brazilian folklore.

"It would be amazing to win it in Argentina," he told Liverpoolfc.tv. "We know all about the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina, but hopefully we can do well and I can get my first trophy with the national team."

Brazil kick-off their quest for the Copa America in Group B against Venezuela on July 3. They'll then take on Paraguay (July 9) and Ecuador (July 13).

Lucas continued: "The Copa America is a really important competition in South America and big players will be involved.

"I am really looking forward to playing for Brazil - it's important to be involved in the national squad. We know how difficult it will be and the standard of competition is very high, but hopefully we can clinch the title.

"It's an important competition for the new manager (Mano Menezes) as it will be his first official tournament. We have a young team, hopefully we can do well."

Brazil will naturally begin the tournament as one of the favourites to lift the crown, but Lucas is well aware the standard of competition will be extremely high.

"Argentina are always a big team and they have good players," he said. "Uruguay did really well at the last World Cup and they will have a lot of enthusiasm and determination to win.

"Of course, there is also Chile, Paraguay and a few teams who also did well in the World Cup, so it's going to be really tough - but Brazil always have to go and try to win tournaments."
