Suarez: History no burden
Luis Suarez insists he does not feel any added pressure wearing the iconic Liverpool No.7 jersey.
The shirt has been worn by Anfield idols like Kevin Keegan and Peter Beardsley over the years - and most famously by current manager Kenny Dalglish.
But Suarez claims history is no burden.
"As for comparisons with the number seven, I just think it's down to luck really," the 24-year-old told LFC Weekly.
"When I got the number seven I was happy because I knew it was a historic number that various top players had worn throughout the club's history. But the number I've got on the back of my shirt is the last thing on my mind when I go out to play.
"I just go out to try and do my best and it certainly doesn't add any weight of expectation more than any other number would do for me."
Suarez was in Dublin with adidas when news broke about Dalglish signing a deal to become permanent manager of Liverpool.
His delight was obvious as he held aloft our new away kit with 'DALGLISH 7' on the back.
The striker's enthusiasm is replicated around the dressing room.
"Not just myself but also the whole squad were really happy when he signed the contract to become our permanent manager," said Suarez.
"He is a very experienced manager, but not only is he an experienced manager, he knows the club and he knows the quality and the type of player the club needs to achieve success.
"He's worked inside the club, knows how it works and I think that will help the club in the future as well."
