Ladies duo support anti-abuse event
Liverpool Ladies duo Natasha Dowie and Becky Easton attended the Women Against Domestic Abuse Cup in Liverpool on Tuesday.
The Reds pair assisted with opening the event alongside councillor Ann O'Byrne and Everton Ladies duo Jess King and Paige Williams, to help raise awareness of domestic abuse.
The tournament was the brainchild of Liverpool Homeless Football Club (LHFC) and MP Luciana Berger, with the first football match taking place in 2013.
Local female crisis centres, domestic violence units and football teams stood together yesterday to stand up and say no to domestic violence and try their feet at football.
On average, two women a week are killed by a male partner or former partner, constituting around one third of all female homicide victims.
Domestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone, yet the problem is often overlooked, excused or denied.
Easton said: "I think this event highlights what an important role football plays in helping to address issues such as domestic abuse.
"It's invaluable for both Liverpool Ladies and Everton Ladies to support events such as this in the local community and it is a real privilege for both myself and Natasha to be able to attend to show our support."
