Ladies edged out at Birmingham
An injury hit Liverpool Ladies suffered a second successive defeat in the Women's Super League when they lost 1-0 at Birmingham on Sunday.
Going into the game Matt Beard was without injured trio Fara Williams, Asisat Oshoala and Satara Murray, but captain Gemma Bonner had recovered from the knock she picked up against Everton to start.
The exciting Katie Zelem was also back in the team after recently returning from international duty.
The home side started brightly and gained an early lead when Karen Carney converted a penalty after Martha Harris was harshly penalised for a handball.
Beard's charges tried hard to get back into the game and Zelem and Rosie White both went close in the second half.
Libby Stout made a string of brilliant saves to give the Reds every fighting chance but they couldn't find a way past a well organised Birmingham defence.
Substitute Ashley Hodson had a great late chance for an equaliser but her effort just cleared the bar.
Liverpool Ladies: Stout, Harris, Longhurst (Schroder 72), Bonner, Easton, Omarsdottir, Staniforth (Ryland 60), Zelem, Dowie, Smorsgard (Hodson 60), White. Unused subs: Darbyshire, Pacheco, Dale, Green.
