Ladies go back to school with free tickets
Liverpool Ladies quartet Satara Murray, Katrin Omarsdottir, Lucy Staniforth and Libby Stout visited local schoolchildren in Widnes this week and handed out free tickets to the Reds' game against Chelsea Ladies this weekend.
American duo Murray and Stout visited Our Lady of Perpetual Succour School and Spinney Avenue Primary School before continuing on to All Saints Upton Primary School and Farnworth Primary School.
The Reds pair participated in a Q&A with the youngsters in each school before handing out free tickets to the Ladies’ game with Chelsea, which takes place on Sunday September 27, 7pm BST kick-off, at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes.
On the visit, goalkeeper Stout said: “It is fantastic to be able to visit local schools and speak to the local children. A lot of the children were really knowledgeable about women’s football, which is brilliant and shows that the interest in women’s football is increasing dramatically.
“To be able to surprise the children and provide them with a free ticket to Sunday’s game was great and hopefully we can put on a good show for them in our final home WSL game of the season.”
Midfield duo Omarsdottir and Staniforth visited St Bedes Junior School, St Gerards Primary School and St John Fisher Primary School before concluding their visits at Moorfield Primary School, and also interacted with the children by joining in with coaching sessions.
Reds No.8 Omarsdottir said: “The look of delight on the children’s faces when we surprised them with free tickets was really gratifying and hopefully we can get a big attendance for the game.
“Hopefully we can inspire the girls to continue playing football as there were a number of players with a lot of potential on show.”
