Liverpool Ladies will be embarking on their first ever pre-season tour as Scott Rogers' side visit Johannesburg in South Africa.

The Ladies will be playing against the winners of the Discovery Walter Sisulu Ladies Challenge on February 21, and will also face the South Africa women’s national team, Banyana Banyana, in a friendly match on February 25.

Both games will take place at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto, as the Ladies prepare for the 2016 Women’s Super League campaign.

Leading international insurance organisation Discovery will host the Reds in South Africa, with funds raised from the Banyana Banyana vs. LLFC match going to the Discovery Fields of Dreams project.

This community-based initiative is focused on developing a sports field and facilities in Alexandra township in Johannesburg that can be used to host sports clinics aimed at encouraging youth to be physically active.

Ladies manager Rogers said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Liverpool Ladies to prepare for the upcoming season by competing against top-quality opposition in South Africa.

“The tour will also provide us with a wonderful opportunity to meet the many Liverpool supporters in South Africa and to get involved with the local community in Johannesburg.”

Iona Maclean, head of experiential marketing at Discovery, said: “We are incredibly excited about hosting the Liverpool Ladies in South Africa.

“No other sport generates as much passion and excitement as football, and the time they will be spending with young girls will not only inspire them to believe that anything is possible, but help to impart some important lessons about life off the pitch.”
