Liverpool Ladies captain Gemma Bonner took a short journey across the Mersey to visit local schoolchildren in Wallasey this week to hand out free tickets for their opening Women's Super League game against Birmingham City Ladies later this month.

The No.5 participated in a Q&A session with the youngsters before handing out free tickets for the clash with Birmingham, which takes place on Wednesday March 23, at 7.30pm, at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes.

On the visit to Weatherhead High School, defender Bonner said: “It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to visit the school and speak to the local children.

"Interest in women’s football is increasing rapidly and I was really impressed by the knowledge of the children about Liverpool Ladies and the sport in general.

"To be able to surprise the children and provide them with a free ticket to the Birmingham game was brilliant and I look forward to seeing some of the children at the game which should be an exciting match.”
