Jess Clarke scored her first goal and Gemma Bonner netted again as Liverpool Ladies beat Birmingham 2-0 at St Andrews in the Spring Series on Sunday afternoon.

Making her first start in the No.9 shirt, the recent signing responded in style with the opening goal as Scott Rogers’ charges continued their unbeaten run.

After a goalless first half, Liverpool Ladies made the breakthrough within two minutes of the restart. Alex Greenwood provided the assist with a fine cross which was met by Clarke who made no mistake with her header.

Substitute Katie Zelem almost made it 2-0 on the hour mark with a fine effort that came back off the post, while at the other end the home side were unfortunate themselves when they struck the bar.

Siobham Chamberlain then showed her quality with a brilliant stop to deny England international Ellen White as an equaliser looked certain.

However, captain Bonner then made certain of the victory 10 minutes from time when she netted her third goal in just four games, courtesy of another brilliant Greenwood assist.

Liverpool Ladies: Chamberlain, Hodson, Greenwood, Stoney (Longhurst, 75), Bonner, Ingle, Weir (Zelem, 56), Coombs, Clarke (Van Der Sanden, 68), Charles, Harding.
