LFC World: McAteer defeats Robokeeper on day two in Hong Kong
Seemingly not content with being crowned Liverpool’s inaugural ‘Putting Penalties’ champion yesterday, Jason McAteer added another prize to his LFC World collection on day two in Hong Kong.
McAteer kicked off the third instalment of the club’s global roadshow by defeating Luis Garcia in a tense play-off at the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club on Wednesday and, a little over 24 hours later, he came out on top again as he and his fellow Reds Legends attempted to beat Robokeeper.
Hundreds of fans and media representatives gathered as McAteer, Garcia, Sami Hyypia, Vladimir Smicer and Patrik Berger were shown around the LFC World base in the Cityplaza shopping mall in the heart of Hong Kong.
After a quick chat by a replica European Cup trophy, McAteer and Berger tried out the ‘Inside Anfield’ Virtual Reality station before all five Legends competed in a penalty shootout against Robokeeper.
Each man had three attempts and it was Berger who found the net first, the Czech crashing an unstoppable drive into the top-right corner after Hyypia and Smicer - whose final kick in a red shirt saw him score in the shootout win over AC Milan in Istanbul - had been denied.
McAteer equalised immediately with a coolly-taken low effort, before Garcia failed to register in his three shots. And, for the second time in two days, the former Republic of Ireland international then edged a sudden-death contest, as he took full advantage of Berger’s miss to triumph once again.

The Legends then addressed the media and fans in a press conference and took part in a Q&A sesssion, with Garcia explaining just how much he enjoys being in Hong Kong.
“Every time I come here I feel the support of the fans. It’s an amazing city,” said the Spaniard.
Earlier in the day, Garcia and his four fellow Legends had returned to Clearwater Bay to play in a partners’ golf event.

LFC World continues on Friday, with the Legends set to receive a masterclass in kung-fu before looking to roll back the years in a five-a-side tournament.
