Express: Reds eye Zenit star
Liverpool and Tottenham will battle it out this summer for the signing of Zenit Saint Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon.
The Venezeula international has been told by former Spurs and Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas that he has no future with the Russian giants as the club closes in on a deal for Spartak Moscow hitman Artyom Dzyuba.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Rondon has accepted that he will be leaving, and is now actively looking for a new team to join.
Liverpool and Tottenham were both linked with moves for the 26-year-old when he linked up with Zenit a year ago in a £15.8m deal from Rubin Kazan.
However, the Reds were basking in the light of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge's deadly 'SAS' partnership, whilst Tim Sherwood was content to deploy Emmanuel Adebayor as a lone forward at White Hart Lane.
But both clubs are now looking for more firepower as they look to compete with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for Premier League glory, and the English duo will both be hoping to secure Rondon's signature.
The former Malaga man has struck 103 times in 265 appearances during his professional career, and would provide either side with a steady stream of goals for years to come.
