Academy starlets set to feature in cup clash
Jurgen Klopp will hand a Liverpool debut to Academy graduate Connor Randall in tonight's Capital One Cup clash with Bournemouth at Anfield.
The 20-year-old right-back has been informed that he will start the fourth round tie, along with fellow rookies Cameron Brannagan and Joao Carlos Teixeira.
It will be a night to cherish for Liverpool-born Randall, who has been on the Reds' books since the age of eight and captained the club's under-18s.
The England youth international, who attended Maghull High School, has been an unused substitute for the first three matches of Klopp's Anfield reign.
However, he will get his chance to impress against Bournemouth with Nathaniel Clyne rested ahead of Saturday's league clash at Chelsea.
There will also be full debuts for Brannagan and Teixeira as Klopp rings the changes ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge.
Brannagan, who penned a new two-year contract earlier this week, made his first-team bow when he came off the bench against Bordeaux in the Europa League last month.
The 19-year-old will start in midfield against Bournemouth with Joe Allen expected to line up alongside him.
Teixeira will play further forward with Klopp hoping that the Portuguese attacker can help provide Liverpool with a cutting edge in the final third.
The ECHO revealed on Tuesday that the 22-year-old was set to be handed his home debut.
He has been waiting patiently for an opportunity since battling his way back to fitness in pre-season after a broken leg prematurely ended a successful loan spell at Brighton last term.
Teixeira, who cost the Reds £800,000 from Sporting Lisbon in 2012, hasn’t featured for Liverpool since Brendan Rodgers handed him his first-team debut against Fulham at Craven Cottage in February 2014.
Randall, Brannagan and Teixeira have all impressed Klopp during training at Melwood, not just with their ability but also their attitude and work ethic, and he's keen to reward that with game-time.
A much-changed Liverpool side will also see Adam Bogdan replace Simon Mignolet in goal.
