Liverpool eye Kevin Grosskreutz transfer
Jurgen Klopp is aiming to fly to Kevin Grosskreutz’s rescue in January, writes Neil Moxley in the Sunday People.
The Liverpool manager will make a move for the Galatasaray utility man, who played for his fellow German at their former club Borussia Dortmund.
Grosskreutz, 27, has been frozen out for the past six months, kicking his heels on the sidelines.
The Turkish club did not submit his paperwork in time to complete an August transfer and he has been left in limbo, unable to play.
Klopp used Grosskreutz in a number of positions during his time in charge of Dortmund.
Galatasaray made a late move for Grosskreutz days before the last window closed in August but they failed to complete the paperwork in time and FIFA ruled that the transfer could not go through.
That has left Grosskreutz training without purpose and, with his family not having settled, he is anxious to cut his losses.
Klopp has masterminded an upturn in Liverpool’s fortunes, but the Reds are still showing defensive frailties.
Grosskreutz, who moved to Turkey for a £1.5m fee, would be able to provide competition and cover in a number of positions in defence and midfield.
His salary would fit comfortably into the Anfield club’s pay structure and he would provide Klopp with insurance during a heavy fixture schedule in the second half of the season.
