Klopp considering January striker move
Jurgen Klopp admits he’s considering dipping into the transfer market this month in order to boost Liverpool’s firepower.
The Reds have scored just 25 goals in 21 Premier League games so far this term with Klopp’s striking options heavily depleted by injuries.
Daniel Sturridge remains unavailable for Sunday’s visit of Manchester United, while Danny Ings is out for the season and Divock Origi will be sidelined for a further three weeks following knee surgery.
With Christian Benteke having struggled to impress Klopp, Roberto Firmino has been pressed into action as a central striker. The Brazilian lit up Anfield with his double in Wednesday’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal but Klopp admits the lack of depth up front is a concern.
Liverpool eased their defensive crisis by signing Steven Caulker on loan from Queens Park Rangers this week and they are exploring both short and long-term solutions to their problems in attack.
One striker they have scouted is Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams. The Spaniard has scored 10 goals so far this season.
“It’s not easy,” Klopp said.
“We are two weeks without a player so you think ‘okay, we’ll take another one’, but then in two weeks we have one too much or two too much.
“They all come back. Buying players is not too easy.
“We don’t have too many striking options that is true.
“It is the same with the centre-halves. Martin (Skrtel) will be a few weeks still. Dejan (Lovren), not fit. Mama (Sakho), problems. Kolo (Toure)? Experience. Very experienced! But he is great.
“So then we had to do something. We are always watching the offensive ends for what we can do. Probably, maybe or never. Then we have to make decisions about where we want to go.”
