Liverpool are prepared to increase their £24.5m bid for Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian striker Alex Teixeira.

As Jurgen Klopp looks for a solution to his side's lack of goals, a Liverpool delegation, led by chief executive Ian Ayre, has been dispatched to Miami to negotiate with Shakhtar officials.

Liverpool's starting bid for Teixeira is £24.5m but they are willing to up this to nearer the Ukrainian club's valuation of nearer £30m. He has also been linked with Chelsea during this transfer window.

Shakhtar are currently stateside to compete in the Florida Cup but Teixeira - who has scored 22 goals in 15 league matches this season - is nursing a minor hamstring problem and missed the match with Brazilian club Fluminense in Orlando as a precaution.

Liverpool, by contrast, have struggled badly in front of goal this year and have only found the net 28 times in 22 Barclays Premier League games and their search to bolster their attack has led them to the 26-year-old, who has ambitions of playing in England.

Teixeira is not an out-and-out striker, more a player who would be comfortable in a No 10 role. Liver-pool have made their position clear to Shakthar and will continue in discussions to see if an agreement can be reached before the window closes.
