Manchester City are ready to challenge Liverpool for the signing of Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes.

The 21-year-old is currently impressing on loan at Empoli, where he has scored twice in 20 Serie A outings so far this term.

Roma only signed him back in 2014 and have been excited by his form at Empoli with reports suggesting he will be part of their first-team squad from the summer.

But Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is well aware of Paredes' talent and has been linked with a summer move for the Argentine.

However, according to reports in Italy, Roma are now bracing themselves for interest from another club in England - Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola, who is taking over at City in the summer, is expected to make his mark on the squad once in place and Paredes is said to be high on his wish-list.
