Liverpool could still beat European rivals in race for Turkish defender
Caner Erkin has not signed any deal with Inter Milan despite reports in Italy suggesting Liverpool's pursuit of the player might be dead in the water.
Erkin's contract with Fenerbahce expires at the end of the season and the 27-year-old has yet to agree a new deal with the club.
Liverpool have been tracking the availability of the player and sent scouts to Turkey at the beginning of the month to watch him.
But Inter had reportedly reached a pre-contract agreement with Erkin to beat the Reds to any chance of signing the defender.
However, Erkin's agent Batur Altiparmak has now denied that any such deal exists.
“We haven’t reached an agreement with any club, we still need to talk with Fenerbahce,” Altiparmak told FutbolArena.
“Between Italy and the rest of Europe four or five teams have contacted us to hear about the situation of the player, but we continue to give the same answer to everyone.
“We can’t yet give a response, positive or negative, until we’ve spoken with the club.
"After that we’ll make our decision.”
Erkin is a left-back, one of the areas Jurgen Klopp is understood to be looking at strengthening this summer.
