Zielinski drops big hint over Reds switch
Piotr Zielinski has his sights set on a move to Liverpool – and has even started scouting Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.
The Empoli midfielder has also spoken of his admiration for Philippe Coutinho, admitting he would welcome the chance to play with the Brazilian star.
The Polish international who is on the Reds’ radar this summer, has dropped a big hint that he would be open to a move to Anfield after the European Championships this summer.
The 21-year-old has been a star in Serie A on loan at Empoli, with parent club Udinese looking to profit from his upturn in form this season.
In an interview with Polish website Futbolfejs.pl, Zielinski speaks of his admiration for Liverpool, and revealed he has been asking about Klopp.
“Some people say these are just the rumours. I know a little bit more about it,” he said. “But until now I just try to play as best as I can in Empoli to have a possible chance in June for such a big transfer move.
“I have spoken with Kuba [Błaszczykowski, who played under Klopp at Dortmund] who plays in Fiorentina now about Klopp.
“He told me about his personality, how is Klopp to the players, gave me some tips, but nothing is known yet. I constantly have to play well in Empoli to get the interest from the bigger clubs."
Liverpool were interested in Zielinski in January, and the Reds could revisit their interest in the summer.
Signed by Udinese from Zaglebie Lubin in 2011, he moved to Empoli on loan at the start of last season.
He has impressed at Stadio Carlo Castellani, scoring three goals in 28 appearances, helping consolidate their position in Italy’s top flight.
He is set to be a crucial part of Poland’s Euro 2016 campaign, and admits that will be an opportunity to secure a move to a bigger club.
“My plans for the summer? I’d wish to play well in the Euros,” he added. “What will be after Euros? Everything will be determined by my play in Empoli and national team.”
The midfielder, who can operate in the final third, admits he would be excited by the prospect of playing with Liverpool playmaker Coutinho.
He said: “Everyone knows Coutinho who is very technically gifted. He can shoot with either foot, no matter if it’s left of right. I think I have something in common with him. Coutinho is fast, he creates the game on the pitch.
“Definitely he is one of the best Liverpool players this season. I really like his style of play, I watch him closely.
“It would be great to play alongside Coutinho. I am sure we could be a good duo on the pitch. We’ll see what will happen.”
