Klopp's experimental side make light work of the Cherries
Liverpool eased to victory at Bournemouth thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.
Jurgen Klopp made 10 changes to the starting XI from Thursday's dramatic Europa League win against Borussia Dortmund, but his new-look defence was far from convincing to start with.
Steve Cook headed a corner wide early on for the home side before Matt Ritchie struck an ambitious 30-yard strike which bounced just wide.
Liverpool’s first real chance came from the boot of Sheyi Ojo, but Artur Boruc was able to parry his shot clear.
The visitors then went close when Joe Allen found Sturridge, but the ball bobbled off his shin and was pushed away from goal.
Liverpool continued to press and were ahead when Sturridge backheeled the ball towards the far corner, and Boruc could only push the ball to Firmino, who had a simple tap-in from four yards out.
The Reds were two up before the break. Jordon Ibe’s free-kick found an unmarked Sturridge and he headed into the left corner with ease.
Liverpool dominated the early part of the second half, and Sturrdige almost added his second of the afternoon, but his delightful chip struck the post.
Danny Ward could have watched much of the match on a deckchair, but he was called into action with 70 minutes gone when Josh King beat Mamadou Sakho and forced a fingertip save from the Liverpool goalkeeper.
Ward then completed a fine debut by pulling off a great stop to deny Lewis Grabban’s bullet header.
At the other end the Reds almost added a third, but Sturridge could only find the woodwork.
The Cherries continued to push and were rewarded with a consolation when King found the net in stoppage time, but it was Liverpool who took home a crucial three points.
