Liverpool are sending an official to close a deal for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi at the weekend, according to reports.

Mustafi has been in fine form the Spanish side this term, making 41 appearances in all competitions and scoring two goals.

According to newspaper SuperDeporte, Jürgen Klopp has identified the German international as a key summer signing.

And it's said the Reds will send an official to broker a deal on Sunday.

"Liverpool will come this Sunday to see a player at VCF, for Mustafi," SuperDeporte journalist Dani Merono told Radio Esport Valencia.

"They will negotiate because they want to sign him.”

Mustafi has previous experience of playing in England, rising through Everton's youth ranks, making his first-team debut in a 1-0 defeat to BATE Borisov in the Europa League in 2009.

However, he was never handed a start in the Premier League and left for Sampdoria in 2012 where he has since gone on to have a successful career at Valencia.

The 24-year-old is also a German international with 10 caps and is expected to be part of Joachim low's side for Euro 2016 this summer.
