Liverpool star could return for semi-final clash
Emre Can has put himself in contention to start Liverpool's Europa League showdown with Villarreal after making a speedy recovery from an ankle injury.
The German midfielder joined in training with Jürgen Klopp's squad on Monday and now has three days to convince the Liverpool manager to plunge him straight back into the starting line-up.
Can ruptured his ankle ligaments in the dramatic 4-3 Europa League quarter-final second-leg success against Borussia Dortmund on April 14, which sealed a thrilling 5-4 aggregate win, and was expected to be out for around a month.
But the midfielder has recovered quicker than expected and his presence will be a major boost for Klopp as he seeks to mastermind another comeback.
Liverpool's hopes of reaching the final in Basel on May 18 are in the balance after Villarreal scored a 92nd-minute goal breakaway goal at El Madrigal through Adrian Lopez to bring a 1-0 lead to Anfield.
Klopp is confident Liverpool can stage another Anfield fightback and will welcome having Can available on Thursday to boost his midfield options.
