Liverpool have made a £12million bid for Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski, according to reports in Italy.

The Reds have been linked to Poland international Zielinski in recent weeks, with a summer move on the cards.

He could play a pivotal role for his country at Euro 2016 this summer and that may see his transfer fee rise.

And Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claim Liverpool have moved early in an effort to secure the 21-year-old.

It is thought Zielinski, on loan at Empoli from Udinese, is open to a move to the Premier League.

He boasts four goals in 35 appearances for club and country this season - his most recent strike in a 2-0 win over Fiorentina last month.

Udinese sporting director Cristiano Giaretta claimed a fortnight back that Napoli were also keen on the player.

"We have no foreclosure, we’ll have many deals with Napoli in the future as well but for now it’s too soon," Giaretta said.

"We haven’t done anything yet but the eyes of many top clubs are on the player.”

Just days earlier Giaretta had told Italian radio station Radio Punto Zero: "There is interest from Liverpool and it is concrete interest.

“He is doing very well and has the eyes of the Premier League on him.”
