Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ousmane Dembele, according to reports.

The 18-year-old has been in fabulous form for Ligue 1 outfit Rennes this term.

Twelve goals in his debut campaign has been a point in proof.

Manchester United and Arsenal have been credited with an interest, as they seek to bolster their respective attacks.

It was thought that Dembele preferred a move to Borussia Dortmund to continue his development.

However, according to the Guardian, Liverpool have done some serious groundwork in an effort to clinch his signature.

It is thought Dembele spoke to Jurgen Klopp on the phone this week and is believed to be impressed with the Merseyside outfit’s future plans.

Leicester have also been keeping tabs, but Dembele has no interest in joining the recently crowned Premier League champions.

He said: “I had Claudio Ranieri on the phone.

“I was surprised to hear from him, I told him that I will not go to Leicester.

“He does not speak very good French.”
