Liverpool receive boost in pursuit of Mario Gotze
Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Mario Gotze.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring the Germany international to Anfield this summer with the Reds hoping to wrap up a deal for around £20million.
Gotze has been out of favour at Bayern this season and new boss Carlo Ancelotti, who is about to take over the Bundesliga champions from Manchester City-bound Pep Guardiola, is prepared to sanction the sale of the 23-year-old.
Klopp nurtured Gotze’s talent during his rise through the ranks at Borussia Dortmund and the Liverpool manager is excited about the prospect of working with him again in the Premier League.
Liverpool face competition from Dortmund but Klopp is hoping his close relationship with Gotze, who only has 12 months remaining on his current deal, enables the Reds to get the deal done.
The Reds remain in close contact with Gotze’s representatives and they will be able to offer him Champions League football if they win next week’s Europa League final against Sevilla in Basel.
