Reds face competition for highly-rated Aston Villa defender
Bastia have reportedly entered the race with Liverpool to sign Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi.
Amavi was one of the only rays of light during Villa’s relegation campaign - despite suffering a serious knee injury while representing France at Under-21 level in November that ruled him out for the season.
But his quality has not gone unnoticed with Liverpool, AC Milan and Lyon being credited with interest in the 22-year-old.
And French website FootMercato claim Bastia have now expressed an interest in Amavi.
Francois Ciccolini's side finished 12th in Ligue 1 last season and are looking to bolster their ranks as they look improve upon the 47 points they racked up.
However, they will face competition from Jurgen Klopp's Reds who are reportedly keen on striking a deal to bring the Frenchman to Anfield.
Express Sport understands Klopp is plotting a major overhaul at Anfield ahead of his first full season in charge and is desperate for reinforcements at left-back following the departure of Jose Enrique.
Klopp is reportedly locked in negotiations to sign Leicester teenager Ben Chilwell, but the 48-year-old is considering alternatives should the negotiations reach a stumbling block.
And French newspaper L’Equipe claim Amavi has been identified as a potential alternative with Liverpool representatives already contacting his agent to discuss a deal.
The 22-year-old was signed by axed manager Tim Sherwood for £9million, and will apparently be allowed to leave the Championship outfit for £10.8m.
