Liverpool edge closer to Sadio Mane signing
Liverpool are edging closer to signing Southampton striker Sadio Mane - but no deal will be finalised until next week at the earliest.
The Reds have been negotiating with The Saints for several weeks over a fee.
Southampton initially demanded £40m for the Senegalese striker who hit 11 league goals last season - eight of them in the final eight matches of the season.
But both parties are likely to agree on a fee closer to £30m - giving The Saints a hefty profit on a player they bought from Salzburg for £10m just two years ago.
Liverpool have raided Southampton regularly in recent seasons - snapping up Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Nathaniel Clyne in the last two summers.
But the Saints’ immediate priority is to secure a new manager following Ronald Koeman’s departure to Everton.
A fee of £30m would make Mane the third highest Liverpool signing in history, behind £35m Andy Carroll and £32.5m Christian Benteke.
