Liverpool are reported to be lining up a move for Udinese defender Silvan Widmer, but will face strong competition from Napoli.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his defence before the season gets underway and is reported to be keeping tabs on the right-back, who starred in Serie A last season.

As well as being an accomplished defender, the Switzerland international also likes to get forward and created 17 chances for his Udinese team-mates last season.

However Liverpool face strong competition from Napoli, who can offer him the chance to stay in Italy and play Champions League football after they finished second.

Liverpool will be looking to push for the top four in the forthcoming campaign but for now Champions League football is off the agenda and it remains to be seen whether that would have an impact on the 23-year-old's thinking.
