Mane taken to hospital after suffering shoulder injury
Sadio Mane has handed Liverpool an injury scare by being sent to hospital after damaging his shoulder during training.
The Senegal striker has undergone scans at the Spire in South Liverpool to further assess the problem, which he suffered in a collision at Melwood this morning.
The 24-year-old drove out of Melwood later in the afternoon with his left arm in a sling, but was still able to sign autographs for waiting supporters.
The Reds are waiting to discover the extent of the injury with Jurgen Klopp now sweating on the fitness of the £30million man for Saturday's Premier League trip to Burnley.
Having impressed during pre-season, Mane enjoyed a hugely impressive Liverpool debut at Arsenal last Sunday, the highlight of which was a blistering solo goal to help earn a thrilling 4-3 win.
Mane spoke afterwards of the strong team spirit that has helped him settle quickly at his new club.
“There’s a very good team spirit and the coach is trying to help us give our best,” he said. “I think this is important.
“I’m close with everyone. I’m just trying to give what I can. I’m impressed by them because we have a great team with big quality.”
Mane's problem is the latest injury setback to hamper Liverpool during the formative stages of the campaign.
Loris Karius, Mamadou Sakho, Lucas Leiva, Joe Gomez and Sheyi Ojo all missed the win at Arsenal through injury.
Daniel Sturridge and James Milner were also absent, but both have returned to training and are expected to be in contention for the weekend visit to Turf Moor.
